Birthday of Lord Krishna is a special occasion for Hindus. The great exponent of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna is the ninth and the most powerful incarnation of Vishnu, the Godhead of the Hindu Trinity of deities.

Krishna took birth at midnight on the ashtami or the 8th day of the Krishnapaksha or dark fortnight in the Hindu month of Shravan (August-September).

This day is being celebrated as krishna's birthday- Janmashtami or krishnamashtmi.

"Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya

Glanirva Bhavathi Bharatha,

Abhyuthanam Adharmaysya

Tadatmanam Srijami Aham'.

Indian Celebrate the Janmashtami by having a fast for a whole day and wake till mid night which is birthday time of Krishna. They then move to Krishna Temple at midnight and sing a Krishna lori swings and cradles

Besides this in many part of India, a Dahi Handi celebration is made every year.A Handi  made of clay is tied up in height prior to event and then a group of human will make a pyramids to break the handi. Now a days even competition is being conducted between groups to break the handi.

This is because it is Hindu belief that Lord Krishna was fond of butter and he used to have butter daily after breaking the hundi of village women.

So happy Krishna Janmashtami to all shristi Members and Enjoy the life....
